Ohohna Refrigerant Policy

Most HVAC systems are not completely sealed.  It is not uncommon to need a "top off" during the year.  As long as it is not more than a pound or two a year.

But what about if it is more than a pound or two.  Or if its more than once a year.

Then it is time to have a leak test performed, or in limited circumstances an internal sealer.

The leak test that we employ is the most successful test that can be done.  High pressure, followed by ultrasonic testing, followed by good old fashioned detection bubbles.  Using "sniffers", low pressure tests, and dyes can lead to mistakes and missed leaks. We don't want to risk that with them. So our options are more simple.  "Top off", or leak test.

So, how do we decide which.

First is history.  If you've been in your home for a number of years, then you can tell us how much has been installed each year.

If you're new to the home, or if this is the first time you've ever had to put in refrigerant, then the question becomes "what is the rate of descent?" Did it lose a little over a long period? Or did it lose a lot in a short period? That answer can mean the difference in hundreds of dollars.  So we want to get it right.  We don't want you to spend money for a "top off"  only to have it leak out and have to add more in a few days or weeks.  But we also don't want you to spend the money of a complete fill up if the leak is so small that it can't be found.

To take away some of the pressure of that decision we have a policy that takes both scenarios into account.

Leak test

• Complete initial recharge after test and repairs are complete.
• From that point, if it needs refrigerant again in the next 11 months...

1. month,  No charge.  If we missed it, you don't pay
2. months, No cost if a leak is found on same equipment but not the same leak.
3. months, 10% of current price per ounce
4. months, 20% of current price per ounce
5. months, 30% of current price per ounce
6. months, 40% of current price per ounce
7. months, 50% of current price per ounce
8. months, 60% of current price per ounce
9. months, 70% of current price per ounce
10. months, 80% of current price per ounce
11. months, 90% of current price per ounce

Top off

• If your system is low and you choose to top it off without a leak test, and then within 30 days it does need one done, You agree to split the cost on the lost refrigerant.  In other words, if we install 2 lbs on a 10 lb system, and it leaks down in 30 days or less to where a leak test is required, we will only charge for 9.  You take 1 lost lb, and we will cover the other lb.

Disclaimer

• This agreement is valid only if Ohohna is the company used for the subsequent repairs.  If another company is used, we can not be responsible for their prices and will not charge up the unit after their repairs, or pay them for any refrigerant used by them.
• In cases involving other contracts, we can not control who is assigned to a job.  You may attempt to have Ohohna assigned, but unfortunately we have no control, therefore can have no responsibility if we are not.
